Animation Club collaborated with Coog Esports to create an animated promotion for CougarCon 2023. Being part of the University of Houston’s Weeks of Welcome, CougarCon features anime, cosplay, board game and video game stations, and various student vendors allowing students to hang out and have fun.

With Coog Esports approval to create an animation promotion, we started doing research into CougarCon. We created a moodboard presenting an energetic, vibrant, and comic book style for the promo and a storyboard of how it would play out.

visual development

Visual development was a fun but challenging process. It was difficult to settle on a style using UH’s colors that wasn’t vibrantly clashing together, resulting in several early concepts. But later settled on a cleaner style that worked.

compositing & animation

Compositing and animation required a tedious back and forth process between After Effects and Photoshop, with Blender also being used for the planet sequence.
